PostSubject: The 10 Commandments Part 2 April 6th 2009   The 10 Commandments Part 2 April 6th 2009 EmptyMon Apr 06, 2009 3:32 am

joshuajared2000: SO as we all know tonight were talking about the 10 commandments.. parts 4, 5 and 6. And tonight we are going to pic up with number 4 "Keeping the Sabbath holy", and in doing so will round out our first 4 which oddly enough are all about our relationship with God.

FireChic05: Dear heavenly Father, we ask that you bless this gathering for you word. Please allow your words to touch those who need them the most and allow Josh to have the words that we need today. May this fellowship time together bring praise to your name. In your name I pray... Amen

joshuajared2000: "Remember the Sabbath and keep it Holy" <-- #4 So first, When it comes to this, we would have to ask ourselves, "What is a sabbath?" to some its a day of rest, to others a day of worship, and to others its more , or less of the two combined. This is also the one commandment that can cause more debates then any other.

joshuajared2000: Well, First off, Let us understand that no matter a day or Rest or Worship, It is a day of Action. "It IS TO BE KEPT holy" and "Sacred" Isiah 56:2 and Exodus 20:8. On this day some read from the law acts 15:21. Lol They even Argued the Gospel in the Synagogues, Acts 18:4. Its a day that Jeremiah 17:21 tells us to be "BURDEN FREE"

joshuajared2000: So as we can see that it is a day of Action. Traditionally the Sabbath was a day in which you seperated yourselfs from foreigners, Confessed the sins of your fathers and self, Read from the scriptures and worshiped God. so you see the sabbath traditionaly is alot like what we call church today.

joshuajared2000: But what about the "keep it holy" part. ? how does one keep a day holy? well Holy means Consicrated, set apart. what is holy is unlike the normal. The ground where moses stood was made holy and there for was to be treated differently

joshuajared2000: So you see this day, let us understand that it is a day to honor God. it is a day unlike any other.. We sure dont have church every day of the week do we? lol but this day of action, in which we honor our God, kept holy and apart from other things also carries with it another question commenly asked .

joshuajared2000: "Whos it for??" lol Some times we wonder if this day is just for jews, gentiles every one, no one... who? to answer this, i want to post Nehemiah 9:14 which says You made known to them your holy Sabbath and gave them commands, decrees and laws through your servant Moses.
joshuajared2000: now, first, the you is God.. so GOD made known to "them" thats the key.. in the begining God made the sabbath for his people. for Israel. in verse 2 of this same book we read...

joshuajared2000: Those of Israelite descent had separated themselves from all foreigners. They stood in their places and confessed their sins and the wickedness of their fathers. 3 They stood where they were and read from the Book of the Law of the LORD their God for a quarter of the day, and spent another quarter in confession and in worshiping the LORD their God.

joshuajared2000: interestingly this chapter also ends with "WE" will make this a written covenant. you see at first, this was a holy day seperate from the other days for a people called holy and seperate from other people.

joshuajared2000: However no matter what day it is, the point is, Saturday or Sunday God wants us to confess our sins, profess him and GET IN THE WORD!!!! The jews do this by following the traditions of Sabbath, we do this as we follow Christ and faithfully attend our church;s.

joshuajared2000: That is why Church is sooo important to us today. so the Sabbath is a holy day, seperate from others, full of ACTION in respect and honor to our GOD. it is about OUR RELATIONSHIP TO HIM.

joshuajared2000: Now on to the ones that Im excited about.. . Commandments five through ten show us how to love and respect our fellow man . which as i stated before i found interesting bc the first 4 are about our relationship with God.

joshuajared2000: So let us move now to Number 5...Which by the way is the FIRST commandment with a promise… “Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee” (Ex. 20:12)

joshuajared2000: Eric smiled at krissy during lunch, as she spoke. “I mean it” she said with a laugh “my mom is always telling me to do this and do that, I swear she tells me to wash the dishes every night” Eric laughed “ hey I know what you mean” he said “my folks have me cut the grass during football while they sit down and veg out infront of the tv”

joshuajared2000: Im sure we all havemoments where we wonder… are we living with parents or slave drivers lol
But for our youth tonight let me point out that this commandment is an awesome responsibility on the part of parents to teach their children to properly honor and respect them

joshuajared2000: Ephesians 6:3, “That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.”
“My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee” (Prov. 3:1-2). Peace of mind, serenity, and a long life are promised for obedience to the commandments of God.

joshuajared2000: I love that God has chosen to bring with this commandment, promises.. already he is reminding us there are benifits to following his word.

joshuajared2000: First it starts with obedience. When your mom or dad says do this,, do it friends. It is good to be obedient. But it moves farther from that as well, from Obedience to Respect.
I have heard many people say things like “well respect is earned its not given” Friends, not according to God. “Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right” (Eph. 6:1).

joshuajared2000: I know what its like having a father who isn’t and shouldn’t be a father. But I also know that my anger, and hate for him had to be let Go. No matter what pain he caused in my life, I am called to respect him. So because I respect him, I no longer talk down about him, or put him down, or bad mouth him.

joshuajared2000: you see, this is an area that is under attack in the Godly homes. If children can not respect their parents and obey them, how will the parents be able to train up their children in the ways of the lord? Although this is a command for children of all ages it is also a command with responcibility for parents.

joshuajared2000: And sure some times mom’s and dads do upset us. But let us hold our tounges and speak not Against them. My son and I have a deal, If I ever make him mad and hes up set he is free to say to me “Dad im really upset right now, can we put this on pause”

joshuajared2000: lol now we will go back and work on this bbut the point is, We have set it up this way that he would learn to control his temper and at the same time continue to respect his parents.

joshuajared2000: Look at how we talk to parents.. Is their respect in our tone? Let us pray there is.So Honor, ( ie respect and obey) your parents, Do good for them. Your mom calls and gets you upset, but rather then give in and reply back, pick her up flowers and a card asking her to forgive you for being angry and tell her how God calls you to honor her.

joshuajared2000: Doing this will also open up a door to witness to parents who don’t know the lord. “why cant I get you angry with me..” “bc I honor you as God has told me too”
joshuajared2000: Hi mercy and Harlemboy

joshuajared2000: But parents must be worthy of the honor they expect from their children. Parents are headed for disaster in their child-rearing if they teach one thing and do other things that are contrary to that teaching. Children pick this up very quickly
A child will not listen to a parent who does not live up to what he teaches.

joshuajared2000: II TIMOTHY 3:2 "For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful and unholy." This is going to happen. So let us honor our mothers and fathers.. Honor them with respect, offering to help, Doing what ever is needed as if it was the Lord we were doing it For.

joshuajared2000: A good example of Honoring them Harlemboy.. WE can honor our parents by taking care of them. iv spoken to many people who now live with their parents to help them out.. One young lady hated it.. her friends and even church friends would put her down, bc she was 33 and living with her "mommy"

joshuajared2000: but this young lady was honoring her mother..
joshuajared2000: Better to be faithful to God then pleasing to men any day

joshuajared2000: EXODUS 20:13 "You shall not murder." Murder is the taking of an innocent life. For example, me walking down the street and popin some one with a gun bc I can… is murder. The jurry ordering a rapist who killed his victims to be put to death is not murder. That man is not innocent and his actions warranted his death.
Harlemboy: the bible states honer thy mother and father that thy days may be longer on the land the lord god giveth thee

joshuajared2000: yeup.. 3 promies by God. For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee” (Prov. 3:1-2).

joshuajared2000: This commandment is also about respecting our fellow men. We get angry at times, but there comes a time when Anger turns to rage and we act. I want to also point out that there have been teens and youth who get abortions. This is also murder.

joshuajared2000: I Say this not to put down those people, but to show that when it comes to these 10 commandments abortion while a violation of them, is forgivable. All of our sins our.
That’s what makes this God so awesome.. his grace

joshuajared2000: Again remember that murder is taking an innocent life. If your being attacked and its your life or your attackers, it is not murder if in defence of your life the attacker dies. You did not knowingly set out to take away the life of an innocent person. Thus committing the sin of murder

joshuajared2000: Lets read…
MATTHEW 5:21-24 " You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.' "But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. Jesus shows us here that being angry can be the equivalent of being a murderer.. but that’s why God tells us…

joshuajared2000:
LUKE 6:27-28 " But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you."

joshuajared2000: So, To close up tonights msg.. #4, remember the sabbath.. Our Relationship with God is important. No matter what day, set aside a day to honor your Savior. To worship him, confess your sins, and GET IN THE WORD, #5 Honor your parents.

joshuajared2000: Maybe they dont deserve it, but did we deserve Gods Love? a love so great that he was beaten and murdered for us? Love them, respect them. And God is going to bless you.. and Finally #6 Dont take the life of innocent people. And dont be so quick to anger
