10 Commandments Part 3 April 14th Empty
PostSubject: 10 Commandments Part 3 April 14th   10 Commandments Part 3 April 14th EmptyMon Apr 13, 2009 1:45 pm

Tuesday April 14th We will finish off our Bible study on the 10 Commandments.

10 Commandments
Part 3

Good evening everybody I am joshuajared2000 and I would like to thank you for coming. Recently we have been holding a youth bible study on Tuesday nights and for the last 2 weeks; we have been looking at the 10 Commandments. Before we start, I am going to open the night in prayer..

Heavenly Father, I thank you first for giving us all the time to meet and to get into your word. The importance of this act is some times missed in the day to day part of our lifes. Thank you that we have this chance to meet, when so many of our brothers and sistes in Christ Do not. Father I ask that you allow us the time to enjoy tonights fellowship and that we would leave tonight knowing that our time with you has been most profitable.

Now if you have not been here in the last two weeks allow me to briefly catch you up.
In lesson 1 we took a look at the first 3 Commandments, Thou shall not worship other Gods, 2) Thou shall not make any idols, and 3) Shall not take the name of the Lord in Vain.

In week 2, we studied #4 keep the Sabbath holy, #5 Honor your Father and Mother and #6 Thou shall not Murder
We also looked at how the first 4 Commandments Deal with our relationship with God and the final Commandments 5-10 Deal with our relationship with our Fellow Man (meaning mankind, so these do apply to male and Female lol)

So tonight were Going to be starting with #7 Thou shall not commit Adultery.
This word Means, “breaking wedlock or unchastity of thought as well as act” So Adultery is about being married… Right? Well no not just about being married. Consider the words of Jesus in Mat 5:28 “but I say unto you, that every one that looks on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” So you see Adultery applies to both the married and the unmarried. Jesus warned that when we lust (having impure thoughts) after some one we have also , even if single, Committed adultery.

Adultery like any sin Hurts the individual, however as stated before these laws are about our relationship with mankind *yes this includes women*, and if you know any thing about adultery the first thing is it doesn’t just affect one person, it effects several people and God forbid If children are involved.

So we need to understand, When it comes to being married, for us, the Act of Adultery starts with looking upon some one with Impure thoughts and it escalates to breaking the marriage. We need to also understand that this Act of impurity , be it in thought or act, can also be done if you are single!

God did not write this commandment and say “YO! You might want to think about not doing this.” Nope he said, “Don’t” And understand that this law, is also about keeping yourself pure.

Some examples of this would be if you have a friend who is dating some body ,or is married, and you become involved with that person in thought or act in a way that is meant for the marriage. If you are married and kissing some one else.. if your married and fooling around, if you are married and browsing chat rooms and talking about topics that you should be talking about with your husband/wife.

So bottom line, If you would do it, say it, practice it, if it is intimate and bringing that intimacy outside of marriage it’s Adultery.

So now lets move on to #8 Thou shall not steal.

What is thief? It is taking what is not yours with out permission. If you keep it, when it was not given to you that is stealing. If you keep it, KNOWING its not yours.. that is stealing.
“oh but josh you don’t understand that cashier gave me 15 bucks back and I was only supposed to get 10 back. GOD HAS BLESSED ME!” you sure? I worked as a cashier, and when the register is short money they don’t say “oh well some one got a blessing” nooooooooo 9 times out of 10 this is what they say “ well josh im sorry your short but that’s coming out of your check” That’s right , cashiers pay for that.

Now you say it is a blessing , but what you do think the Christian cashier who did that is thinking? As they pray “lord this is the 3rd time this week iv made this mistake. Im going to lose my job” You know my mother actually has a good story of this type of situation.. Id like to have her if at all possible come up to the mic and tell this story..

Im sure you will get a good laugh but I think it shows us a good lesion. *kombi takes mice tells story of bag o dirt*

Now does this mean my mother stole the Bag of Dirt? I believe no. only bc my mother did not try to keep what wasn’t hers. When people hand you extra money, and you keep that money you know in your heart its not yours you know you only gave them 10 bucks and you know you are only supposed to get 2.50 back and they had you a 5 you know that’s not God.

Let me tell ya about financial blessings.. I have seen some amazing ones. One of the grumpiest energy companies called their customers to inform them that they had over paid the last several months and they now have a fairly decent credit on their accounts….just in time for the families praying in winter that their heat is not shut off.

Some one sends you a letter “I don’t know you. But God has so laid it on my heart to send you this.. I pray God Bless you greatly” and you open the rest of the letter to find 50 dollars…. Just what it cost you to fill your gas tank..

Those are blessings… keeping what is not yours, what has been taken from others, is stealing.
But Gods not going to send me to hell for stealing a pack of bubble Gum I mean come on its bubble GUM! It is on sale 25 cents a stick .

I understand the logic when people say it is just a pack of bible gum. But guess what.. you still stole some thing.
Theft weakens your defenses.. Stealing says, “come on its just bubble gum” what is next. “well remember that bubble gum? Well hey this is just like it. That person isn’t yours but hey.. !!! could be…” and so the voice continues on “they are not treated right at home. They look good. You can actually help them…go on make a move..” if you can steal a pack of bubble gum then It is possible to steal some ones heart that is married and hurting.
Stealing is stealing.. bottom line, If its not yours… do not keep it, do not take it, and Return it.
( IT’S AMAZING HOW SIN WORKS TOGETHER)

Now number 9. THOU SHALL NOT LIE.

the Bible tells us, "In the last days...men...Will be...trucebreakers" ( 2 Timothy 3:1-3).
Today we question Every thing.. The promises of politicians, Fellow Christians, business can no longer be
conducted on a handshake, but only with the signing of 300 pages of paper work, or a pre-approved credit card, parents have good reason to doubt their children. Solomon says it's "better not to vow than to...not fulfill it" ( Ecclesiastes 5:5 NIV).

God’s word tells us in Psalms 15 to KEEP OUR WORD, Even if it hurts..

I want you think about this.. if you cannot keep your word, how can you be trusted? If you lie about the stolen pack of bubble gum, why should your friends trust you about more important matters? You are a proven liar.
Lies are horrible. They attack totally who we are.. Integrity, Honor, Self-respect and Honesty mean every thing to the Lord and they should mean the same to us. The lord tells us in Numbers Chapter 30 Verse two “A MAN SHALL NOT BREAK HIS WORD” For the Christian Integrity demonstrates what we believe, and how consistent of a walk we have with Christ.

So bottom line on Number 9 is this. Lying is a sin according to Gods word. Lying will affect your honor, your integrity it will affect the way others look at you, treat you and trust you.. If you do lie, you need to make amends immediately.. Genesis 12:11-13 tell us that even half-truths are deceptive.. Proverbs 22 tells us that lying lips are an abomination.. so Be honest.. Be keepers of your word..

Finally #10 Thou Shall Not Covet
Exodus 20:17 You shall not covet your neighbor's house, your neighbor's wife, or his manservant, or his maidservant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor's.

So what is Covet then? Is it desire? No Desire is a good thing..
Desire is not a bad thing...
Psalm 40:8
I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart."
"DESIRE SPIRITUAL GIFTS" 1 Corinthians 14:1
"BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO HUNGER & THIRST AFTER RIGHTEOUSNESS" Matthew 5:6
So what is coveting then?
COVETING is when DESIRE becomes INORDINATE or UNLAWFUL. Coveting is the Normal Desire Gone wrong...
It's NOT WRONG for a man to desire a HOUSE, WIFE, CAR, PET, JOB etc...
But it is wrong to desire your neighbors... house, wife etc...
THIS LEVEL OF DESIRE PLANTS THE SEEDS OF WILLINGNESS TO hurt, steal, and kill. Coveting is desire run rampant w/o control.
It will injure, hurt, and even destroy to get what it wants! It is through Coveting that people “STEAL” the lover of some one they know and enter into adultery.
Think of cars. COVETING is like a defect in our steering = pulling us toward a misalignment.
You can find coveting in GREED = Money, sex, power, praise, approval, status, authority
I want, I want I want. There is never any satisfaction with Coveting/greed

So bottom line on this one is this… If you want to DESIRE some thing that is fine as long as it is a wholesome and Godly desire.
But when you cross from Desire to “I WANT WHAT THEY HAVE”, you have entered into COVETING. Think if kids.
Sure, they love their new toy they just got... until they see a toy another kid has “OH MOM I HAVE TO HAVE IT!”
OR as my daughter likes to say “DADDY I NEED DAT”

OK!!!! NOW.... I am happy to say that this concludes the 10 commandments bible study.. but for those taking notes... im happy to say THERES MORE!!! you see in the new testament Christ spoke of TWO commandments.. 1) Love the Lord your God with all your Heart, Body, Mind and Spirit and 2) 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Why are these important? what is their relation to the 10 commandments? Join us next week as you see how the OLD meets the NEW and what happens.

Audio coming soon.
